For the Sake of a Soldier’s Family

Late at night of one day in November, 1951, when the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) was at its height President Kim Il Sung  was informed of a fact while being reported from a commanding officer of the Korean People’s Army.

It was about the family of an 18-year-old hero of the Republic who shot down five enemy planes in a little over a month. The hero’s family remained in the enemy-held area in less than 8 kilometers away from the position of our forces he was defending.

Being acquainted with the anxiety of the soldier who was hearing nothing of his family, though he saw his native home through a periscope, the President gave the commanding officer a task to rescue his family. 

The task made him very surprised. The President gave detailed instructions how to rescue them.

The President asked the commanding officer to bring the family property with the family members saying that the old people value their own farm tools used for a long time, therefore, they should bring all things even a farm tool and a broom from hero’s house.

After all, whole family members who were suffering from a fever had an emotional meeting with their dear son.
